Introduction
Themes in codeit define a topic, subject or brand that can be applied to Verbatims to categorise the content expressed within each Verbatim.
Themes exist within a Codeframe and collectively a set of Themes define the coded content of a Task.
Theme Properties
Themes have a number of properties that define their meaning, usage, display and behaviour.
The following table lists these properties with a description for each:
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Code | A shorthand Id value used to identify a Theme |
| Label | A short piece of text used to define the meaning of a Theme |
| Colour | A display colour applied to a Theme |
| Autocoding | Controls whether a Theme can be applied to Verbatims where the Verbatim text exactly matches the Theme Label |
| Description | A longer piece of text used to provide additional explanation of the purpose, usage or meaning of a Theme |
| Text Match Rules | A set of text patterns used to match a Theme to text within Verbatims |
Theme Properties - Advanced
Themes also have a number of more advanced properties which can be used to control behaviour in more specialised situations.
The following table lists these properties with a description for each:

| Single Code | Ensures that a Theme cannot be applied alongside other Themes on any given Verbatim |
| Temporary Code | Allows a Theme to be excluded from the results in exports by selecting 'Exclude Temp Codes' in the Export Wizard |
| Permanent Code | Ensures that a Theme cannot be deleted or merged into other Themes |
