When to use this feature
This feature enables you to derive a codeframe from a context variable in your coding task. For example, suppose you have some Other Specify data with the closed end codes stored in your context variable and the closed end labels in your source variable. You could use this feature to derive a codeframe from the context variable and apply the relevant codes to each verbatim.
In the example below, cat, dog, rabbit and goldfish were all in the precoded list for Q1 and their codes copied across alongside the verbatim for 'other specify' items such as 'gecko'. The codes from Q1_code have been created using the context variable codeframe creation, as described in the video below.
How to use this feature
Note that the following restrictions apply to this feature:
- The "Create codeframe from context variable" action can only be applied when the codeframe for a task is empty
- Codeframe members will be created from any numeric context values
- Context values and verbatim values must be internally consistent. For example, if code "1" relates to verbatim "cat" then ALL instances of code "1" must be consistent and map to the verbatim "cat".
Each of the steps and options covered in this video has a tooltip that is shown in the software itself and listed in the Coding & Codeframe Wizard Guide or Codeframe Panel Overview guide. You can also find out more about the coding and codeframe settings that you can change at project level administration and company level settings.
