Introduction

The codeit "Sync Data" process gives you control over the flow of coded data to and from your survey platform.
In this context, "Coded Data" relates to any variables selected as "Target Variables" in the Link Data Wizard.

Toggling Sync Direction

The codeit Sync Data dialog contains a section that allows you to control how your coded is synced.
You will see one or two arrows, depending on your platform (see below), illustrating the flow of data from codeit to your survey platform, or vice versa.

Clicking the icon displayed on each arrow will toggle on/off the data flow in that direction.

Coded data flowing from codeit to your survey platform represents the coded data generated by codeit (either by manual methods, or via the codeit AI) flowing back to your survey platform and being saved in the target variable(s) within your survey.

Coded data flowing in the other direction, from your survey platform to codeit, represents pre-existing coded data being imported into target variable(s) within codeit. This is sometimes necessary when your survey contains coded data that you want to import to train the codeit AI.

Additional Controls

In addition to controlling the flow of coded data using the directional arrows, the settings tab also allows you to further control over the data flow.

The settings available are as follows:

  • Write coded data

Controls which workloads are included when writing coded data to your survey platform.

    SettingEffect
All coded dataIncludes all workloads and writes the coded data back to your survey platform for all target variables, regardless of whether the coded data has been previously written back to the survey platform.
This method can be slower (because it includes a larger amount of data) but ensures that the complete set of data is written back to your survey.
Just Unsynced DataOnly includes workloads that contain new coded data that has not been previously synced. This method is quicker because it only syncs new data that has not yet been written back to your survey.

  • Allow Target Data Overwriting
When syncing coded data to codeit, this option controls the behaviour when the sync would result in overwriting data with data that is different to the pre-existing data in codeit.
