When to re-import files

It is possible to re-import the same set of data multiple times within codeit. There are a number of scenarios when you may wish to do this:

  • You want to re-import data because your new data contains additional records that you wish to append.
  • You may need to re-import your data to bring in additional columns/questions that you forgot to import originally.
  • Occasionally, you may want to re-import data because the source data has changed in some way (e.g. verbatim data has be cleaned/edited, closed end data has been corrected etc...)

How to re-import files

codeit has checks built-in to detect whether the data you're importing already exists within codeit, and whether or not the two differ. These checks are designed to alert you when an import will result in the data in it being overwritten.  These checks apply equally to the file import and the data links mechanisms in codeit.  Watch the video guide below for the steps to take when re-importing data, and read carefully the detailed explanation of the scenarios you need to choose from when you choose the Overwriting Existing Data options, as what you choose will impact your dataset.

Each of the steps and options covered in this video has a tooltip that is shown in the software itself and listed in the Data Import Wizard Options ExplainedYou can also find out more about the import settings that you can change at company level in this guide: Data Import Company Settings.
