Introduction
Allocating Workloads to an External Coder is a simple process. This page explains how to do this, and the options and settings available within the Allocation page in codeit.
Steps Required
From within the Allocation page, perform the following steps to add a new Allocation:
- Click the "Add Allocation" button from within the top-right area of the screen.
- Using the popup form that is show, specify the settings (see below) of Allocation you want to add.
- Press the "Add Allocation" button to apply the Allocation.
Allocation Settings
The allocation form contains a number of settings and inputs:
Setting | Description | Applies To |
---|---|---|
Allocation Type | Choose either "Coding" (to allocate Workloads for coding) or "Verify" (to allocate Workloads for Quality Checking). | - |
Coder | Select the External Coder you want to allocate Workloads to | Coding, Verify |
Project Permission | Select a Role (e.g. coder, supervisor, etc.,.) to control the Users permission when working on the allocated Workloads. | Coding, Verify |
Tasks | Select the Task(s) that contain the Workloads you want to allocate. | Coding, Verify |
Waves | Select the Wave(s) that contain the Workloads you want to allocate. | Coding, Verify |
Languages | Choose which Languages you want to restrict the allocation to. | Coding, Verify |
Quota Type | Choose whether to allocate all Workloads within the Task/Wave/Language criteria, or a subset of records. A subset can be specified as an absolute number, or as a percentage of the total Workloads that meet the Task/Wave/Language criteria. | Coding, Verify |
Quota | A percentage or absolute number of Workloads if allocating a subset (see above) | Coding, Verify |
Include Coded Workloads | Choose whether to include coded workloads (i.e. Workloads with codes already applied) within the allocation. For the "Coding" Allocation Type (see above) this setting is relevant if you want limit coders to uncoded verbatims or whether you want them to recode previously coded items. For the "Verify" Allocation Type (see above) this option is not available, because only coded Workloads are relevant for quality checking. | Coding |
What Happens Next?
When you add an allocation, codeit will immediately apply the settings you have chosen and allocate any applicable Workloads that exist within the Project.
The allocation page will display a row summarising the allocation rule you have just created:
How are Workloads Selected?
Workloads are selected for allocation using the following methods which are different depending on the allocation type:
Allocation Type | Selection Method |
---|---|
Coding | Workloads are allocated to a coder in a randomly sorted order. For example, if you allocate 50% of the Workloads within a Task then the coder will be allocated a random 50% of the Workloads rather than, say, the first 50% of Workloads. |
Verify | Workloads are allocated in a randomly sorted order, as above. However, coded Workloads are prioritised over uncoded Workloads. So, codeit will firstly allocate coded Workloads and then allocate using uncoded Workloads if the target has not been met. |
What Happens When Data is Imported or Deleted?
When new Workloads are created in codeit (either by importing new Records or by creating new Tasks). then all of the Allocation rules with a Project are reapplied and new Workloads are allocated as appropriate.
When Workloads are deleted (either by deleting Records or Tasks) then similarly, all of the Allocation rules are reapplied so that deleted Workloads are unallocated and, if relevant, any remaining unallocated Workloads will become allocated.
