Introduction

The main coding screen in codeit has been given a major revamp.
The old coding screen has done a great job for the last 10 years, but we felt that it was time for an overhaul, so we have spent the last year rewriting it from the ground up.
Throughout the development we've worked closely with our users to refine and perfect the new interface and the feedback we've received has been overwhelmingly positive.
This page outlines the main changes and what you can expect from the new screen.

What's Changed?

Here's a rundown of what you can expect from the new screen

• Faster, slicker and more modern
  Our new coding screen has been updated to use the latest, cutting edge web technologies.
  This means the whole page feels smoother, easier and more intuitive to use - so coding data becomes faster than ever before.
  For example, the page uses buttons, icons and shortcuts to quickly access useful features that previously took several clicks to get to.
  The new screen also displays verbatims in one continuous list, so you can quickly work through your data without paging.
  
  
• AI Assistance
  The new coding screen now provides more AI Assistance than ever before.
  You still remain in full control, but there are now multiple AI tools to assist you and make the coding process go quicker. For example, codeit can help you split a theme that is too general, use AI search to perform smart filtering and look for duplicate themes in your codeframe.
  
  
• Additional Source Data
  This is a powerful new feature that allows you to load in additional verbatims from a different Wave, Task or Project right within the Manual Coding screen. As long as the additional data shares the same codeframe as the current Task, you can load it in. This can be useful if you want to compare data from a previous wave, or you want to code multiple Tasks or Waves simultaneously.
  
  
• Improved Filtering and Searching
  We have added some powerful features to the column filtering and verbatim search so you can apply more sophisticated filters.
  For example, you can perform precise filters such as Contains, Starts With, Ends With, Near, Includes List and so on....
  We have also added the ability to filter using a range of values, for example to filter on Detractors or a certain age group.
  
  
• Improved Codeframe Editing
  We have made it easier and more intuitive to edit codeframes within the new screen.
  The old "Edit Mode" has now been discontinued, so you can merge, delete, reorder and split codes directly within the codeframe itself.
  We have also added the ability to add translations to items in your codeframe, which can be edited and displayed directly in the codeframe itself. 
  
  
• Dark Mode
  By popular demand, we’ve added a “Dark Mode” colour scheme. If you spend large amounts of time in Manual Coding, the current default background can be a bit hard on the eyes. The new Dark Mode solves that with a muted, dark background – perfect for long coding sessions.
  
  

How do I access the New Coding Screen?

You will now see a new banner on the main coding screen that will allow you to switch to the new coding screen. You can also enter the new coding screen using the "mode" button the main ribbon at the top of the page.

Do I have to use the New Coding Screen?

No - you can continue to use the old coding screen as normal if you prefer.
However, as the new coding screen is significantly better, we would encourge you to start using it instead.
Eventually, the old coding screen will be retired - probably in Spring 2027 - so there is plenty of time to experiement with the new screen and get used to it.
